Sienna, The Ronin

This page may contain spoilers regarding Broken Aether.

Sienna is a speed-oriented melee attacker specializing in frequent actions, high critical hit potential, and rapid single-target damage. Her high Agility allows her to act multiple times before most enemies, reinforcing strategies that rely on turn economy and fast offensive pressure. With proper equipment and passives, her critical hit rate can scale significantly, increasing the consistency of her damage throughout long encounters.

Sienna can steal items from enemies through dedicated abilities, providing access to materials and consumables during combat. Her stealing skill scales in effectiveness as it levels, allowing it to remain reliable across the game. This differentiates her version of the stealing mechanic from class-based alternatives, which provide similar functionality with different success rates.

She also features a unique Petal Storm mechanic, where certain abilities have a chance to activate a temporary state that unlocks specific follow-up techniques if equipped. Early in the game, this mechanic allows her to deliver high burst damage before higher-tier offensive skills become available. In later stages, it continues to function as a supplemental source of additional attacks and momentum.

Although not designed as a traditional defensive character, Sienna can be configured into an evasive or counter-oriented role in encounters that rely heavily on physical attacks. When equipped and built accordingly, she can avoid damage while retaliating through counter mechanics, providing situational frontline value while still functioning as a damage dealer.

Strengths

  • Fits a mix of Samurai / Thief archetype: lots of speed and high damage, and ability to steal from enemies.

  • Has one of the highest damage-output potential in the entire game, alongside Lenne and Ba'Thraz.

  • Boasts high offensive and defensive stats.

  • Highest AGI and CRIT in the base game.

  • Her stealing is guaranteed at max rank.

  • Has plenty ways to increase her AGI and dodge rate.

  • Powerful Ultra Move that increases her CRIT.

Weaknesses

  • Has the third lowest TP, tied with Robb. Given that Sienna takes a lot of turns due to her high AGI, she can quickly burn her skills.

  • She is so fast that the Overdrive gauge will rise a lot if there are no skills types available to Sienna for lowering it.

  • Nearly all her buffs except of Nukitsuke are selfish, only applied to her.

  • Petal Storm's proc is too RNG based to be relied on.

Baseline

  • Petal Storm: very potent skill, especially in the early game, solidifying Sienna as a nuke character right off the bat. The drawback is that it can only be used once Sienna gets a proc of the Petal Storm buff when using certain abilities.

  • Yoko Giri: useful through pretty much the whole game, as area-of-effect is always good for normal battles. The chance of triggering Petal Storm is increased per enemy hit.

  • Pilfer: while there are no exclusive items obtained through stealing in the main.

  • X-Slash: until the player gets Mikah, X-Slash is the only source for Bleed damage. This stacks with other damage-over-time effects (Poison and Toxic).

  • Blade Reflection: an emergency panic ability to inflict Blind on all enemies.

  • Nukitsuke: one of Sienna's most important abilities, granting +15% CRIT for the whole party. While additional ranks don't increase the effect, they increase the number of turns for the buff.

  • Quickstep: possibly Sienna's most important self-buff. It increases her AGI by 35% until being hit (whopping +75% on max rank).

  • Shadow Step: gives Sienna two dodge charges to avoid physical attacks, useful to keep her Quickstep active at all times.

  • Calm Water: increases her chance to dodge, and it scales with her AGI, meaning it has direct synergy with Quickstep.

  • Dragonfang: this ability is the culmination of Sienna's potential. She can deal up to 5 hits, and the chance increases with her AGI.

Class Abilities

  • Ether Sucker: from Vampire. Sienna has one of the lowest TP and burns skills fast, so this is especially valuable on her.

  • HP Sacrifice: from Vampire. A passive skill where you lose 5% of your HP but deal 5% more damage (up to 15% when maxed).

  • Search: from Chemist. Obtains a random item.

  • Elite's Strength: from Sovereign, which is an exclusive Ashes of Elrant Class Emblem. Increases ATK by 15% (25% when maxed) for self; has no set duration and lasts until KO'ed or the battle is over.

  • Follow-up: from Sovereign, which is an exclusive Ashes of Elrant Class Emblem. It increases damage with every critical hit, up to +15%. This is a non-brainer for Sienna and boosts her already impressive damage.

Crystals

  • CRIT Damage Up: with her whopping 80% crit.

  • AGI Up: more AGI means more turns, more damage.

  • HP Drain: very straightforward. Hit enemy, get HP. The amount seems to scale with damage done, so the harder you hit, the more you heal. Useful on pretty much all characters.

Early Game

Sienna begins the game with access to abilities that emphasize speed and rapid single-target damage, allowing her to contribute offensively from the start. Early abilities can trigger her Petal Storm mechanics, providing additional attacks when conditions are met and reinforcing her role as a momentum-driven striker.

During the early stages, enhancing her speed and critical-related attributes supports her ability to act frequently and capitalize on follow-up damage windows. Increasing resource capacity can further stabilize her performance in extended encounters where repeated skill usage is required.

Mid Game

As Sienna reaches mid-game skill tiers, she gains access to higher-impact offensive abilities that significantly increase her damage potential and reinforce her role as a fast single-target striker. New skills introduced during this phase emphasize burst openings, allowing her to capitalize on frequent turns and critical-based builds.

This stage also provides opportunities to enhance her ability to generate materials and rewards through skills that influence drop rates, supporting players who prioritize resource acquisition alongside combat efficiency. Attribute growth during this phase typically continues to emphasize speed-based scaling, allowing her to maintain battlefield initiative.

Further into mid-game, additional offensive abilities expand her burst potential, enabling stronger damage windows and more efficient skill rotation. These upgrades allow Sienna to establish her long-term combat identity earlier than most characters, offering consistent performance across various encounter types.

Class Emblems available during this period can reinforce different aspects of her design - some support offensive scaling, others provide utility through agility or hybrid stat development. Each option supports viable mid-game configurations depending on party composition and intended role.

End Game

In the late-game tier, Sienna gains access to her highest-level speed and damage-focused abilities, reinforcing her identity as a rapid single-target attacker. These abilities enhance her turn frequency and offensive consistency, allowing her to maintain a high-impact presence in encounters where acting first or repeatedly is critical to success.

At this stage, attribute development typically focuses on maximizing offensive scaling and turn economy. Enhancing key stats such as Agility, attack power, and critical-related attributes allows her to maintain momentum during prolonged battles and contribute to burst-damage strategies. As her kit consolidates, late-game development tends to refine existing strengths rather than dramatically shift her role.

Advanced Class Emblems become available in the late game, offering multiple specialization options. Some emphasize critical-focused playstyles, others provide broad stat growth across multiple attributes, while certain emblems reinforce offensive power and survivability simultaneously. Each emblem path supports different strategic approaches depending on team composition and desired combat role.

End-game equipment options can further support her focus on speed and critical scaling, enhancing turn frequency and maximizing damage output during active windows. Additional choices enable hybrid utility or sustain depending on encounter requirements and how prominently she features within the party’s overall strategy.
